Founders Award

An annual fundraiser to benefit EMP's youth programs, EMP's Founders Award features legendary performers who have made substantial contributions to the field of music.

  1. Maya Flood (2013 Youth Advisory Board member and Teen Artist Workshop alum) sang and played keyboard as part of EMP Museum’s All-Star Teen Band, Vuja De. The band performed a medley of “What’s Happening?!?!” by the Byrds, “Carrie Anne” by The Hollies, and “Bluebird” by Buffalo Springfield.

  2. Brandi Carlile and bandmates, Tim and Phil Hanseroth, performed the Crosby, Stills & Nash song "Helplessly Hoping" from the 1969 self-titled debut album at the 2013 Founders Award Celebration.

  3. The legendary Crosby, Stills & Nash performed at the seventh annual Founders Award Celebration, an annual fundraiser benefit that supports EMP's numerous youth programs. Guest musicians included Brandi Carlile, Shawn Colvin, Pete Droge, The Head and the Heart, The Moondoggies, Jason Mraz, John Roderick, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Elaine Summers.

  4. 2013 Founders Award recipients David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash have formed one of the most influential and enduring creative partnerships in music today. The band became a cornerstone of rock ‘n’ roll with their self-titled 1969 debut LP, one of Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." Ever since—through changing times, various band configurations, and acclaimed solo careers— Crosby, Stills & Nash have continued to tour and record as "three together."

EMP Museum presented its seventh annual Founders Award to Crosby, Stills & Nash, an honor given to artists who have made outstanding contributions in music.

Since its inception in 2007, the EMP Founders Award Celebration has raised nearly $1.5 million in support of vital youth programming, offering accessible music education to more than 30,000 schoolchildren annually. Programs include Artists in Resonance, educator resource development, school field trips, summer camps, scholarship programs, and critical performance opportunities.
